Camby Indiana

Welcome to Camby, located a scant few miles from the southwesternmost corner of Indianapolis. Big city Indy and its many satellite suburbs such as Camby share space in beautiful Marion County in Central Indiana, a richly verdant and diversely populated section of the American Heartland.

Here’s a video of Heartland Crossing, a nice, self-contained community neighborhood of Camby, Indiana.

The 2000 census put the population of Camby at 6,073, almost equally divided between males and females, young and old. Since that year, the population has risen over 9%, to 7,383 in 2009.Home in Camby, Indiana Camby’s 2000 census stats also claim a median per capita income of just over $20,000, with a median family income of about $60,000. The cost of living in Camby in 2009 checked in at 21.60% lower than the nation’s average. It is, in short, a very nice, smallish but thriving Midwestern city.

With the grand metropolis of Indianapolis so near, many residents of Camby choose to make the short commute, such as it is, for work and play. The Circle City offers much allure by way of Indianapolis businesses and the world-acclaimed Indianapolis attractions, most of which are located just a few miles away from Camby. Some of the best Indiana restaurants are right around the corner or just up the road, so to speak, though Camby restaurants do hold their own well enough, thank you.

Headless ghost spotted in Camby, IndianaAcross the generations, many myths and rumors have sprung up and taken root about haunted places in Indianapolis and its suburbs. Camby folks have their own ghost stories, which they enjoy bringing out to regale listeners, avid or not. Some of the stories are quite graphic, such as the headless man’s ghost, witnessed several times under a Camby streetlamp. Then there’s the old gold digger’s ghost, very recognizable with a wooden leg and a big beard, and the memorable and terrifying phantom doomed, apparently, to drink blood forever outside the state park in Brown County.

Camby, which resides within the Decatur Township, bears the nifty nickname of “West Union Station.” There’s a strong Quaker element in Camby’s history, and a tight family and community spirit abides. Find this interesting United States representative of Americana near Indiana’s State Road 67, along Camby Road.
